How To Protect Your Car From Road Salt Rust

Wax Your Car

Prepare your car for optimal protection by starting before snowfall. Begin with a thorough wash, ensuring the underside is included. Apply a coat of wax and a sealant to safeguard the vehicle's paint.

Focus on sealing vulnerable areas like brake and fuel lines underneath the vehicle to prevent corrosion, which, if ignored, could lead to potential accidents. It's advisable to wax your car at least every three months.

Perfect protection would be SOFT99 Fusso Coat, Fusso is a 12 Months Wax that creates both a hydrophobic and protective coating durable for up to 12 months.

Thanks to unique fluoropolymers, the coating effectively reduces adhesion of dirt and repels water. The paint is protected against negative effects of weather conditions such as acid rain, UV radiation and road salt.

Furthermore the hard paste wax creates a clear gloss protective coat that also eliminates swirl marks on the applications body.

Fusso is available to buy in both light & dark variants depending on the vehicle paint type.

Directions for use are as followed,

  • 1. Remove any dirt on the cars bodywork following appropriate wash steps.   See our blog on wash steps here - https://www.mycarcleaning.co.uk/blogs/news/washing-a-car-a-detailers
  • 2. Apply small amount of Fusso with the sponge included and spread it as even as possible in circular motion
  • 3. Allow it to dry for at least 10-15minutes (weather conditions apply)
  • 4. Use a detailing grade microfibre to wipe off residue, flip towel if necessary in between process

Wash Your Car Regularly

Regular car washing might seem futile considering inevitable dirt accumulation, but it's a crucial defence against corrosion and rust. Use hot water for washing to prevent freezing, as salt left on the vehicle's surface can degrade both its finish and mechanics over time.

Use Rubber Car Mats

To shield your car's interior, especially the floor, from salty snow brought in by shoes, use rubber mats. These mats not only prevent damage but also simplify interior cleaning, sparing you the task of rigorous scrubbing.

Fix Any Scratches Immediately

Promptly attend to any scratches on your car caused by winter conditions, as the salt on roads can hasten rusting. Automotive stores offer touch-up paints specifically designed to fill these paint chips, protecting your vehicle from potential corrosion.

Despite winter's dirt and snow exposure, proactive care such as regular waxing, consistent washing, and the use of customized rubber floor mats ensures your car navigates the winter season unscathed.
