Iron vs Tar Removers: Do You Really Need Both?

Spot the Difference

Contaminants on your paint aren't always visible, but they’re there — slowly degrading your clear coat. That’s why using both an iron remover and a tar remover is crucial to proper decontamination. Let’s compare how they work and when to use each.

Step 1: Gyeon Q2M Iron REDEFINED 500ml

This pH-balanced iron remover chemically reacts with embedded ferrous particles, such as rail dust and brake fallout, turning purple upon contact to show it's working. Safe on wheels, paint, and glass, it's ideal for routine decon every 4–6 weeks.

How to Use:

  • Spray onto cool panels and wheels

  • Allow to dwell for 3–5 minutes

  • Agitate with a wheel mitt or microfibre

  • Rinse thoroughly

Step 2: Tar Removers (e.g., Auto Finesse ObliTARate or Gyeon Q2M Tar)

These tackle sticky petroleum-based residue like road tar. Apply after iron decontamination for a completely clean surface before claying or polishing.

Application Order Matters:

  1. Snow foam

  2. Gyeon Q2M Iron

  3. Rinse

  4. Tar remover

  5. Clay
